1974 - Repaint Blues
A small problem developed over the winter of 1973. The pigments in the dope used for the Blue trim faded to almost White in the sunlight.
As a result all the Blue had to masked off and repainted.
Joe Brokaw offered the use of his Quonset Hut to do the work. He had a nice shop on his property north of Flint, near Mt. Morris. I guess we were lucky it was only the Blue.
With the painting done it was back on the trailer and off to the airport. The trailer has been modified to provide racks for the wings since the stringers prevent folding the wings.
While it's a little more work it saves damage to the leading edges of the winds and tail surfaces.
Chapter 77 had a display in the local shopping mall.
In June the engine was replaced with a Continental C-85-8. Because this model has no starter or generator it's only a few pounds heavier than the A-65 for the extra 20 horsepower.
Another fun summer of local flying and travel to events at Saginaw, Owosso, Tawas and Howell.
